When interior designer Jennifer Ashton and I came up with the idea for an annual design event to raise money for Santa Fe school kids, we had no idea how successful it would be.  We planned on inviting some of Santa Fe’s top interior designers to each create a room in a beautiful home on the market based on atheme that would tie the rooms together. Then we’d invite guests for home tours and a gala opening party, and donate the event’s proceeds to Dollars4Schools.org.

ShowHouse Santa Fe launched in 2013 and since then, the event has grown by leaps and bounds. Show House 2015 raised $30,000 and drew 3,000 visitors, the event’s highest attendance yet. Every day was jammed, and it’s been wonderful to see so many people turn out to support the cause.

Last year’s event helped Dollars4Schools support teachers and students by funding more than 20 classroom projects in 18 Santa Fe public schools that supported Literacy, Arts, Math, Science and Special Education programming impacting  some 2,000 students. Funds also provided basic needs support for 50 students, who each received a new winter coat, hat, gloves and other winter essentials.

I love the fact that with ShowHouse Santa Fe, we can directly support Santa Fe’s public schools and students and make a real difference in their lives. What’s also exciting to me is working on the house, meeting new and emerging talent and really giving them a platform with some of Santa Fe’s veteran designers. It’s great getting a fresh perspective and seeing the designers show their signature looks in an updated way.

Last year’s event drew more than 20 interior designers and was held in one of Santa Fe’s most historic homes. One of the best things was our theme, Lux New Mex: Reimagining the Western Classics of leather denim and suede. It was amazing to see all the creative interpretations of this theme, and the collective design talent in this city. We’re already working on ShowHouse Santa Fe 2016, which will showcase a new them as well as a few new emerging interior designers in Santa Fe and help thousands of Santa Fe students.

A big thank you to all the wonderful sponsors who helped support ShowHouse Santa Fe 2015, to all the participating designers and to our great guests who helped make last year’s event a huge success!
